METALLIC WIRE FRAME SPHERE
Step 1: Open a 500 x 500, 72 dpi canvas, white
background. Hit D for default colors followed by X key to make white
foreground. Fill layer with white.
Step 2: Go to Filter/Sketch/Halftone Pattern.
Size 6, Contrast 50, change pattern type to Line.
| Step 3:Go to Select//Color Range. At the
top of this menu, enter "highlights" in the select drop down box.
| Step 4: You will see marching ants
across the lines on your canvas. Hit Delete key and deselect (if you
turn off your background layer you will see that the white has been
deleted).
| Step 5: Filter/Other/Maximum and enter a
value of 3. |
| Step 6: Duplicate this layer, then go to
Edit.Transform/Rotate 90CW. Hit Ctrl+E to merge down.
| Step 7: Filter/Distort/Spherise.
Apply again (Ctrl+F). |
| Step 8: We want to resize our
sphere. Edit/Transform/Scale. Hold both the Alt and Shift keys
and drag corner handle in (this will resize evenly) till its about 2/3 of
its original size.
Step 9: Select elliptical marquee tool and holding
down shift key drag from upper left corner of the grid to lower right.
Nudge circle into place over sphere. Select/Inverse/Delete.
Deselect. |
| Step 10: Go to
Filter/Blur/Gaussian Blur and enter setting of 1. Now go to
Filter/Sharpen and apply the Unsharp mask 250, 05. 0. This should
help rid us of some of the jaggies on the outer lines. Duplicate the
layer and turn eye off on original (thus, any changes you apply in the
next step will leave original image intact).
Step 11: Double click on the layer to bring up the
layer styles. Apply a drop shadow. Check Gradient,
select gradient of your choice, liner, angle 48. (You can play around in
the layer styles to achieve other effects - this all very much a matter of
personal taste). If you redo the tutorial, try making
lines thinner etc for different effects. There are some examples below.
