Creating a CD Image

1. Open a new image that is 500 pixels by 500 pixels, RGB, 144 PPI, white.

2. Click View=>New Guide.

  • Insert horizontal guides at 70, 200, 229, 250
  • Insert Vertical guides at 70, 200, 229, 250

2. Insert a New Layer. Select the elliptical marquee tool. Set the options to 0 feather, Fixed size 100 wide by 100 high. Click at exactly 200 pixel by 200 pixel guide crossing. Then change the fixed size of the elliptical marquee to 42 wide by 42 high. Holding down the ALT key Click at the 229 pixel by 229 guide intersection.

Fill the select with Light Grey Hex #CCCCCC set to 20 % opacity.

3. Set the elliptical marquee to 360 pixels by 360 pixels. Click the cursor at 70 pixels by 70 pixels guide crossing. Reset the marquee to 100X100 and while holding down the alt key, click the 200X200 guide crossing.

Fill the remaining selection with light grey Hex # CCCCCC set at 100%. Deselect all.

4. Insert a New layer called GRADIENT. Select the gradient tool. Set the Gradient to the preset Spectrum. Hold the shift key down and draw a gradient from top of your canvas to bottom.

Click on your Move tool, and check Show bounding box on the move tool options. use the left center bounding handle to drag the left border of the gradient to the 250 guide line.
5. Click Edit=>Transform=>Perspective. Draw the top left bounding box handle to the center mark. Apply your transformation.

6. Duplicate this layer 3 times by right  clicking on the gradient layer and selecting duplicate, so you have a total of 4 layers with the gradient wedge.

On gradient copy Select Edit=>transform=>rotate 90 degrees CW. Use the move tool to place this on the bottom.

On Gradient copy 2 select Edit=>transform=>rotate 90 degrees CCW. Use the move tool to place this gradient along the top.

On gradient Copy 3 select Edit=>transform=>rotate 180 degrees. use the move tool to place this gradient along the left hand side.

9. Click on Gradent copy 3 and hold control key down, hitting the letter E. do this on Gradient copy 2 and gradient copy so that all the spectrum gradients are merged into one layer.

Set this mode of the gradient to Color Overlay.

10. Click on Layer 1. Use your magic wand with your control key down to highlight all of the grey areas on layer one. Select your Gradient layer. Click select=>modify=>contract. Set to 4 pixels.

Click Select inverse. Hit your backspace key.

 11.Click on Layer 1. Use your magic wand with your control key down to highlight all of the grey areas on layer one. Highlight the gradient layer. Click Layer=>New Adjustment Layer=> Hue Saturation. Set opacity to 35 % normal mode.

On the Hue Saturations box, select the following:

  • colorize
  • hue 227
  • saturation 44
  • lightness -8

  •  

12. Insert a New Layer. hit your d key followed by your x key. Select gradient tool. white to black, set mode to screen, and opacity to 20% Draw a gradient from upper left to lower right.

13. Take the Elliptical Marquee set at fixed size of 100 X 100 pixels, and click at the junction of the 200 by 200 guides again. Click select=>modify=> expand. Set to 6 pixels and click ok. Hit the backspace key.

14. Click back on the gradient layer and hit the D key. Select your type tool, set at 4 pixels, Arial.

Type in "DEVELOPINGEBS.NET" and select the WrapText option. Set the option to arc +85. Set the text in the gradient area that is not shaded in the center.

Type in "COPYRIGHT © 2002" and set Warp text to Arc at -60. (note the exact warp will depend on the length of the text.


15. Take the Elliptical Marquee set at fixed size of 100 X 100 pixels, and click at the junction of the 200 by 200 guides again.

Click select=>modify=> contract. Set to 6 pixels and click ok. Click back on the gradient Layer. Set the foreground color to light grey, hex # CCCCCC. Click Edit stroke. Set stroke to 2 pixels, 60% opacity, mode normal.

Again- Click select=>modify=> contract. Set to 6 pixels and click ok. Click back on the gradient Layer. Set the forground color to light grey, hex # CCCCCC. Click Edit stroke. Set stroke to 2 pixels, outside, 60% opacity, mode normal.
16. Double click this layer to bring up layer styles and blending options.

Set the advanced blending fill opacity to 0%.

Click on Bevel and Emboss on the left side and set the following:

  • style to Pillow.
  • smooth
  • depth 11
  • size 1
  • soften 0
  • shading -135, altitude= 45

 

 


11.Click on the channels panel and with your control key down click on Alpha 1. Click back on the layers panel and highlight the  layer 1. Hit your D Key to select black as foreground color. Click Edit Stroke. Select 1 pixel, mode normal, opacity 50%
