Creating a Fill Pattern

1. Open a an image in photoshop 6 that has a pattern you want to use as fill. For this example we will use a tiling background, but you can use any texture you have.

2. Select the Marquee tool from the tool bar.

3. Draw a marquee around the area you want to use as a fill. Since this example is a tiling background the entire image was highlighted with the marquee tool.

4. Click the Edit menu and select

Define Pattern...

5.  The Pattern name dialogue box appears. Name your pattern.

6. Click OK.

Now you are ready to use this pattern as a fill in your images.

Click Using a fill pattern to learn how to use the patterns.
