Tablecloths
Like grandma used to have
A. Setting up the canvas
- Open a new file
- 300 wide
- 300 High
- 144 PPI
- RGB
- white.
- Edit Preference=>guides and grids
- Blue
- Lines
- every 50 pixels
- subdivision 4
- Click on View=>show=>grid
B. Creating some shapes to use.
- Hearts
- Click on your shapes tool on the tool bar.

Click
on the heart. from the shapes options bar.
- Set to Fixed Size
- Width = 50
- Height = 50
- Hit your D key to set black as the foreground color and click on
your canvas.
- Click EDIT => Transform => Rotate and set the ANGLE to 45 °
on the rotate options bar.

- Click on your marquee tool and apply the rotation.
- Hold your control key and click on the layer.
- Click on your paths panel.
- Click Edit => DEFINE CUSTOM SHAPE . Name it heart1.
- Repeat A-H 6 more times and name each heart by number: heart2,
heart3, heart4, heart5. heart6, heart7.

Creating a pattern brush
Pattern 1
- Click your shape tool. Select the 10 point star at size 50 wide by
50 high.
- Place the 10 point star in every other square by clicking the upper
left hand corner of the box you want it in.
- Select your heart shapes and insert them in every other box
- When you have a 4 shape by 4 shape square, click the move
tool, show bounding boxes on your options bar, and resize this layer to
a 100 pixel X 100 pixel square
- Right click on your shapes layer and rasterize.
- Click Edit=>define brush
- Name the brush "8 pt. star with hearts"

Pattern 2

Turn the eye off on the background and any other layer. Insert a new
layer.

Click on your shape tool, set the shape to the heart, and size 55 wide
by 55 high. Set the heart from center.

Using the different orientations of the heart, click on each lline
intersection to produce a near square as shown below.

Insert a new layer. Set color to grey and uncheck from center. starting
at grid intersection in the middle
of the upper left heart, put four
grey hearts on this layer.
- Insert a new layer and select white as your color, filled circle as the
shape. Set the fixed size to 30 wide by 30 high.and From Center.
- Click in the center cross, upper left, right, lower left , right.

Click
Layer => Merge Visible.

Click on the move tool, and with bounding boxes showing, resize this to
100 wide by 100 high.

Click Edit => Define Brush

Name the brush Hearts
D. Using your brushes to make your table cloths
Cloth
1
- Open a new image about 1000 by 800, white, RGB, 72 ppi.
- Hit the D key and then X to select white as your foreground color.

Select your brush tool. Select your first brush as 8 pt. star with
hearts
- Insert a new layer.
- Paint in 7 rows of 7 columns of this brush end to end .
- Click on your move tool. Check show bounding box and resize your cloth
till it is about 500X500.

Using
the move tool and bounding boxes, rotate your canvas 45 degrees and apply.
- Squeeze the height while lengthening the width and apply.
- Use the Rectangular marquee tool to highlight the bottom third.
- Using the move tool and bounding boxes, stretch the
bottom
down so it gives the impression of overhang on a table.
- Insert a mask on this layer by clicking the insert mask button on the
bottom of the layers panel.
- When the mask is active, select the gradient tool with linear
gradient. Hit your D key to set black as your foreground color and white
as background color. Draw a gradient from the back of the cloth to
the "bend" in the cloth, holding down the shift key to make a straight
gradient.
Cloth 2 (same as above, with different brush)
- Open a new image about 1000 by 800, white, RGB, 72 ppi.
- Hit the D key and then X to select white as your foreground color.
- Select your brush tool. Select your first brush as Hearts
- Insert a new layer.
- Paint in 7 rows of 7 columns of this brush end to end .
- Click on your move tool. Check show bounding box and resize your cloth
till it is about 500X500.
- Using the move tool and bounding boxes, rotate your canvas 45 degrees
and apply.
