Dragon Wing Jewelry

Part 1: The Wings

1. Open a new file

  • 600 pixel wide by 600 pixel high
  • RGB
  • 300 PPI
  • Transparent background.

2. Insert a new layer. Select your rectangular Marquee, set the options to the following:

  • Feather = 0
  • Style= Fixed size
  • Width = 50
  • Height = 500

Draw a marque at the top of your canvas at about 200 pixel mark.

3. Hit your D key to set default colors, and then hit your X key to reverse your colors. Using the gradient tool, set to reflected gradient, Hold yoiur shift key down, draw from the center of the rectangle to the right side of the rectangle.

4. Click edit Transform Perspective and bring the bottom corner handles into the center bottom and apply.

5. Duplicate this layer 2 times so you have 3 layers with this on it. Click your move tool and use your left arrow tool to move the top layer so the image is at 200 on top. Click on the Next layer and move  the next layer so that the mage is at 250 at top, and the third layer is at 300. This should show the images all touching at the top.

6. Click on the top layer. Click layer=> merge down. Click Layer merge down again.

7. Duplicate this layer. Shift the new layer 3 to the right 25 pixels so that the images occur on the top layer starting at the 225 pixel mark.

8. Click on the top layer. CLick Layer => merge down.

9. Click Edit=> transform=>rotate 90 degrees CW. Click Filter => distort=> polar coordinates. set for rectangular to polar

 

10. Click Edit => Transform => Rotate. Set the Angle to -145. 


11. Click Filter=> Liquify.

  • Select the Clockwise twirl
  • Brush size 150
  • Pressure 50%

Click at the 11 pm mark and hold down your twirl brush till you get a nice curve formed.

Click ok.


12. Click Filter => Liquify

  • Clockwise twirl
  • Brush size 110
  • Pressure = 50%

Click at the noon mark and hold your twirl brush until you get a nice curve formed.

Click ok.
13. . Click Filter => Liquify

  • Clockwise twirl
  • Brush size 80
  • Pressure = 50%

Click at the one o'clock mark and hold your twirl brush until you get a nice curve formed.

Click ok.

 

14. Click your move tool. Use your move tool to drag your image up towards the top of the canvas.

15. Select the rectangular marquee tool. Use the marquee tool to select the lower half of the image as shown in the diagram on the right.

 

16. Using the move tool with the show bounding box checked in options to drag the bottom center handle of the marquee down to the bottom of the canvas. Apply this change.

17. Right click on this layer and select Duplicate layer. Flip the layer copy but clicking Edit=>Transform=>flip horizontal.

Use the move tool to arrange your wings on opposite sides of the canvas. You may need to enlarge your canvas at this point to fit both wings. Do this by clicking image=> canvas size and increase the width.

Lock this layer and Turn the eye off.
