Feathers
Inspired by a Bulletin Board post by: Phil Desmarais (Phil_The_Rodent)
1.
Open a new document:
- 600 px X 600 px
- 72 dpi
- transparent background.
- RGB
2. Draw an vertical oval with your elliptical marquee. Hit your D key to
set default colors. Using the paint bucket, fill it with black.
3. Click Select => all. Then Click edit cut,
Then
Edit =>Paste to center you image on layer 1
4. Filter: Distort: Polar Coordinates: Rectangular to Polar
5. Click edit=> transform and set the following options
- Y value of 300
- width of 50%
- height of 200 %.
- angle to 180.
6. Duplicate the layer by right clicking on the layer and select
duplicate layer.
7. Click Image=> adjust=> Invert

Click Edit=>Transform=>Distort setting option to
- y value of 340
- width 90%
- height option to 85%.

Filter: Distort: Polar Coordinates: Polar to Rectangular
10. Image: Rotate Canvas: 90 degrees CW
11. Filter: Stylize: Wind: Wind from the right
12. Repeat step 11 (Ctrl-F) 2 times
13. Image: Rotate Canvas: 90 degrees CCW

Filter: Distort: Polar Coordinates: Rectangular to Polar
15. Ctrl-click on layer 1 to make a selection
16. Click Select=>Inverse , hit your Delete key.
17. Deselect All

Create a New Layer
19. Make rectangular Marquee selection the length of the white area
20) Fill with black
21.
Zoom into the top of this rectangle Edit=>Transform=>Perspective. Move the
top outer handles together
22. Select the Move Tool by hitting the V key. Press Shift-down arrow
twice to move the selection down.
23. Double click this layer to add layer styles. Click on Bevel and emboss.
