Getting To Know Photoshop 7

Opening an Image

1. Open Photoshop by clicking start=> programs=> adobe=> photoshop

2. Select File=> Open. Select the image you want to open.

 

The Tools

Photoshop has many areas you need to learn the names of the.

  • Menu Bar is the main control of the program. This can be used to turn on or off any of the rest under window and view. It contains filters and adjustments which you will use, as well as open and save and save for the web.
  • Options Bar is where the tool options will appear when you select a tool.
  • Toolbox is where your basic interactive and manipulative tools are selected. The options for each tool will be located on the option bar.
  • Image Window is where you will see the image you are working on
  • Info Bar- at the bottom of the screen will be info about your file.
  • Palette well- your brush engine and file browser are hidden there. They will only appear if window is wide enough.
  • Palettes- the individual palettes for controlling many options on your image such as layers, channels, history, etc.


 

The Toolbox is located on the left side of the default layout of Photoshop. It has an assortment of tools for painting and editing your image.

1. By mousing over the tool, a text box comes up with the name of the tool and the keyboard shortcut for that tool.

2. Select a tool by clicking on it or its shortcut. Click on the lasso tool. The lasso tool has a shortcut of L.  Hit your Z key and you will see your tool change to the Zoom Tool just but using a keystroke.

4. Hidden Tools on the toolbox

The Toolbox is not big enough to display all the tools. many tools on the tool bar have small corner carrots which when you right click or click and hold drop out to the right.

Hot keys for tools can be used in conjunction with the shift key to toggle through the nested or hidden tools. Also you can just click on the tool you want successively with the alt key down to toggle the tool
