Navigating Through an Image
The Hand Tool
The hand tool is used to scroll through an image that is much larger then
the viewable field.
1.
Open your image. Hit ctrl + twice to magnify it. Notice the lower right hand
corner of the image has a handle on it. Grab the lower right corner of your
image and make sure your window is smaller then the full image; ie scroll
bars present.
2. Select the hand tool
and use the
hand tool to move your view to each of the three skaters on the image. Click
and drag the image left and right, up and down to get the feel for the hand
tool.
3. Select a different tool, say the paint brush. Now hold your space bar and try dragging your image. Locate each of the three
statues.
4. Double click the zoom tool to return to actual size. To resize window
to fit your image, select zoom tool and check the option for resize windows
to fit. Then double click the zoom tool.
The Navigator Palette
The Navigator palette is in the palettes area. If you do not see
it, rest your default layout by clicking window=>workspace=> reset palette
locations or you can simple click window and make sure Navigator is checked.

Move the slider at the bottom of the navigator to the right till the box
shows 300%
2. Notice your image is showing a red box. The red box is the viewable
portion in your image window. Grab the red box with your left mouse button
and hold down. Move it to the first statue. Move it to the second statue.
Move it to center on the third statue's base.
3. Use the hand on the navigator window by clicking on the First
T in Taming. Notice your viewing area moves to where you click.
4. Hold your control key down and use your curser to draw a marquee
selection on the navigator window over the right statue's head. Notice you
have zoomed in on the head to fit on your canvas. The smaller the marquee
you draw, the larger the magnification.
The Info Bar
The info bar appears at the bottom edge of the work area in Photoshop. If
you do not see it, click window=> status. Make sure status is checked. The
magnification is there. In the right hand selection carrot is a menu of
items that can appear on the info bar.
Select the file size. File size: the first number is the size of the file
if saved flattened. The second number is the file size if saved with all the
current layers.
