Kitty Love Background

You will need to download the following images to use in this tutorial

1. Open a New canvas that is 1028 wide by 550 high , 300 ppi, RGB, white

2. Insert a layer called stroke. Select the rectangular marquee. Set the option of style to fixed size of 1050 wide by 300 high. Click at the 100 pixel mark on the side ruler.

3. Click Edit=> Stroke. Set stroke to 10 px, red hex value #FF0000, outside, normal, 100%.

4. Click back on the background layer. Insert a layer  called wall. Click Select=> inverse. Hit your D key and set the foreground color to red, Hex value #FF0000. Fill the top strip and the bottom strip with red.

5. Hit filter=>noise=> add noise. Set to 50% Gaussian, monochromatic. Then click filter=> blur=> motion blur set to angle=0 distance= 34. Then  Click filter=> distort=> ocean ripple set at size= 8, magnitude= 20.

6. Click on the stroke layer. Select your shape tool. Set the shape to the heart card shape that comes with Photoshop. Set the foreground color to Hex value #660000. Draw a heart that has outer dimensions of approximately 130 by 130 pixels. Use your move tool to place it about 30 pixels from the left, and 20 pixels from the top. Open up the blending options for this layer by right clicking on the layer.

Check Bevel and emboss Set the following:

  • Style = Pillow Emboss
  • Technique = smooth
  • Depth = 1000
  • Direction = down
  • Size = 9
  • soften = 0

Check Stroke and set the following:

  • Size 3
  • position= outside
  • normal blend mode
  • Opacity = 100
  • fill = color
  • color= red.

7. Duplicate this shape layer and Click edit=> transform=> scale. Set the height and width to be 180%. Move this heart shape so the top is even with the top of the first heart, and it is to the right of it at about the 200 pixel mark up top.

8. Duplicate the first shape layer and Click edit=> transform=> scale. Set the height and width to be 150%. Move this heart shape so the top at about the 240 pixel mark on the left ruler and the left side is at about 80 pixels on the top ruler.

9. Import the cat images by opening them up and using the move tool to move them onto your canvas. Turn them all off but the kitten on the blue background and click on the kitten layer.. Use the lasso tool with feather = 0 to select around this kitty. Click the "add Layer Mask" button on the bottom of the layers panel. Use the move tool to Position this kitten in the upper left heart so it looks like it is hanging out of it.

10. Select the sleeping cat layer to turn it on. Use the lasso tool with feather = 0 to select around this cat. Click the "add Layer Mask" button on the bottom of the layers panel. Use the move tool to Position this cat in the bottom heart. You may want to rotate slightly to get t to look like it is sleeping out of the heart. Adjust the layer mask with a hard brush, using black on the mask to round out the cat butt.

11. Select the Siamese cat layer. Click Edit=> transform=> flip horizontal. Use the lasso tool with feather = 0 to select around this cat. Click the "add Layer Mask" button on the bottom of the layers panel. Use the move tool to Position this cat in the top right heart so the tips of the cat paws look like they are out of the heart.

12. Select the peeking cat layer. Use the lasso tool with feather = 0 to select around this cat. Click the "add Layer Mask" button on the bottom of the layers panel. Use the move tool to Position this cat in the bottom near the left (690 pixel mark on the top ruler) and so that it appears to be hanging onto the bottom stroke like.

13. Select the rose cat layer. Click Edit=> transform=> flip horizontal.  Lasso the rose cat and apply a mask. Use the move tool to move this to the left side of the canvas.

Click on the top layer. It is time to add your own text to this canvas, poster, card, webpage. Have fun!
