Montage Page Backgrounds

To complete this tutorial you will need the following images:

1. Open a canvas that is 1000 wide by 550 high. insert a new layer. Hit your d key and use the paint bucket tool to fill the new layer with black.

2. Insert a layer. Select your rectangular marquee with options set to style of fixed size 1000 wide by 300 high. Click at about 300 pixels down on the left edge of the canvas.

3. click Edit=> Stroke.

  • outside
  • normal
  • opacity = 100%



4. Open the Picture of the church and use the move tool to drag a copy onto your canvas. Position it so it is centered between the white lines and half way off the canvas on the left.

5. Use the verticle sing column marquee to select one column of pixels on the right side of this image. Select the move tools with bounding box option checked to scale this selection so it goes completely to  the far right side of the canvas.

Click Filter=>Blur=> Gausian Blur set at 3.0 pixels.

6. Highlight your white line layer. Select the magic wand. Click between the white lines (middle). Click back on the church layer and hit your mask button on the bottom of the canvas. Set this layer to Linear Light mode at 60% opacity.

7.Open the waterfall image. Use the move tool to drag a copy of the waterfall over to your canvas. Position it so it is butted up to the left. Use the lasso tool set to 5 pixel feather to select out the waterfall. On your layers panel click add layer mask.

Click back on the lines layer and use your magic wand to select the center between the lines. Click Select=> inverse. Click back on the waterfalls layer and make sure the mask is active. Use your rectangular marquee with your alt key held down to mark out the bottom selection and remove it from the selection.  Hit your d key followed by your x key and fill the top selection only  with black. Set the waterfalls layer to pin light mode and 60% opacity

8. Open your cloud image. Use your move tool to drag a copy of this image onto your canvas. Click Edit=> Transform=> Perspective. Bring the left corner handles together to meet. adjust the position and size as in the picture on the right. Right click on the mask on the church layer and set selection to mask. Click back on your clouds layer and apply layer mask.Set the mode of this layer to screen mode at 70% opacity. Click Layer=> arrange=> send backward.

9. Click on your top layer. Open the Eagle image. Use your move tool to move the eagle image to your canvas. Click Edit=> transform=> Flip horizontal. Use your magic wand with a tolerence of 50 to select the blue around the eagle. Click Select=> inverse.  Apply a layer mask. Select your move tool with bounding boxes displayed and rotate the image -30 degrees. Position him in the upper right over the clouds overlapping the top white line a little.

10. Cleaning up the falls= click back on the falls layer, click on the falls layer mask. using a black, 100 pixel soft brush, clean up the bottom right side of the falls mask to cover the rough edges.
