Saving images

Rules of Thumb for best image quality for the size:

Save File as a PSD if one or more of the  following are true

  • You are not finished with the changes you need on the graphic
  • You believe you will want to use some part of the image in the future

Save as a JPG image  if you are saving for the web and one or more of the following are true

  • The image is a photgraph
  • The image has very complex colors and gradients in it
  • The image needs more the 256 colors in it, up to 16 million colors.

Save as a GIF image if you are saving for the web and one or more of the following are true

  • The image has large blocks of single colors in it
  • Part of the image is transparent
  • The image does not need more then 256 colors to look good, and you would like to limit the numbers of colors in the image.

 

1. When you have an image ready to save, click the menu item FILE => SAVE

2. Type the name you wish to save your image as.

 

3. The default format for saving images in Photoshop is PSD. This will preserve the layers as you created however is not compatible with web browser viewing.

 

4. To select another file type cliuck the downward arrow for the format field and select GIF or JPG for a webpage.

 

 

 

JPG options:
  • If you select JPG, the compression screen comes up and asks you to select the amount of compression you wish to use. The more compression, the less quality

GIF Options

  • Transparency
  • color depth
  • color pallette
