 Saying
I love You! in many Languages!
A Text Valentine
You will need this file to
complete this tutorial.
1. Click
File=> New. Set the file to the following:
- Width: 750
- Height: 700
- Background White
- 72 ppi
2. Select the shapes tool
3. On the
shapes options bar, set the shape to path only and select your shape
selection drop down.
Select the Flyout from this panel and install the "shapes"
from the list. This will give you a nice heart shape.

4. Draw a heart path starting at the upper left and ending at the lower
right of your canvas.
5. Press your d key and click image=>
Canvas Size. Set the canvas size to
- width= 800
- height =- 750
- center
6. Open the text file in a notepad. There are several different groups
of text. There is a groups of text that repeats "I love you!".
Use your cursor and highlight this text. Right click on the highlighted
area and select "copy" from the menu.

Select your type tool in Photoshop. Set the text to 18 pt Ariel, Dark Red,
Hex #990000. Move your cursor over the path for the heart until you see
the cursor change to an I with a bent line through it. Click on the path
on the left side of the heart when you see the I with the bent line
through it. This will set an anchor for the text. Hold your control key
down and press the letter v (ctrl v will paste). Your text will go around
the heart inside the heart.
8. We want the text to be outside the heart, not inside, so with
your direct select tool (white
arrow) , mouse over the text until you see a black arrow form on the
cursor. Drag the text to
the other side of the path. The text will move to the outside of the
shape. Click somewhere else to deselect the text.
9. Open the text file in a notepad. Highlight the text that says I Love
You in many different Languages. Press CTRL c to copy the text.
10. Insert a new layer. Click on the path palette and select the heart
shaped path on the path palette.
11. Select your text tool again. This time you will set the text to the
following:
- Size: 30 pt
- Leading: 24
- Font: Monotype Corsiva
- Color: Bright Red, Hex #ff0000.
- Aligned: Justified. (on the paragraph tab)

Mouse over the center of the figure. Notice the cursor will show an
oval like shape over the I cursor. This
means you are set to fill a shape with text. Click inside the heart and
hit CTRL v to paste.
12. You now have a heart made of text and outlined in text. Let's fancy
it up. Click on the background layer. Add a layer. Select pale pink
color and fill this layer with it.
13. Select your path palette. Highlight your heart path on the paths
palette. Click back on the layers palette. With your pink layer
highlighted, click Layer=> Add Vector Mask=> Current Path.
14. Click
the FX button on the bottom of the layer panel while the pink heart layer
is highlighted. Select Bevel and Emboss. Select the following:
- Style: Inner bevel
- Technique: Smooth
- Depth: 171
- Direction: up
- Size ~ 21

Save your file and print it for your Valentine!
