1. Open a new canvas by clicking file=> new. Set to the preset size of 2 X 3

 

 

2. Select your rounded rectangle shape tool for your tool box.

Set the rounded rectangle to the following:

  • Draw path
  • Rounded rectangle
  • Radius = 50 pixel
  • Add to path area.

3. Draw a rounded rectangle that fits on your canvas, just inside the borders.

4. Double click the work path on the path palette and name it My Shape. We will build out paths into a a shape on the paths palette.

5. Select the rounded rectangle tool set to the same options as above except set it to  exclude from path area

6. Draw a rounded rectangle path inside the first so that there is about a 25 pixel margin outside this rectangle to the first. 

7. Click on the My Shape path on the paths palette. Select your path selection tool. Click on the inside path to highlight it. Hold your shift key down to click on the outside path to highlight it.

 

8. On the paths selection tool option bar, use the alignment choices there for

  • Align horizontal centers
  • Align vertical centers

9. Click the combine button on the path selection tool to join the two paths.

10. Use the rounded rectangle tool set to add to area to draw another rectangle inside the second.

  • Use the path selection tool to select it.
  • Hold the shift key to add the combined outer two paths to the selection.
  • Click the option to align vertical centers and align horizontal centers.
  • Click the combine button.

11. Click view=> new guide.

  • Set a vertical guide at 300 px
  • Set a horizontal guide at 275 px

12. Select the polygon tool. Set it to the following

  • path
  • polygon
  • sides=6
  • Exclude area pressed.
  • Polygon options fly out menu: star checked, indent by 50%

13. Draw a star starting at the intersection of the guide lines up to the top border of the inner rounded rectangle. Notice how the rectangle will "snap" to the lines.

14. Draw a second star with same settings from the same starting point, but rotating about a third of the way between the points. Draw a third star path from the same starting point and rotating an additional third.

15. Select the path selection tool from the toolbox. Click on the first star path. Hold the shift key down and click on each of the other two paths. Still holding the shift key down, click on the rounded rectangle borders. Click the combine button on the option bar.


16. Select your type tool set to the following and type in the letter "n"

  • Mythology one
  • Regular
  • 120 pt
  • smooth

Use your move tool to position the figure so that it is centered on the vertical guide and the head just touches the horizontal guide.

17.  Click the menu layer=> Type=> Create Workpath. Turn off the eye on the type layer on the layers palette.

18. Choose your path select tool from the tool box. Click on the work path on the path palette. Click the menus Edit=> Copy. Click on the Me Shape path and then select Edit=> Paste. Use the direct select tool to select the figure. Set this figure to Exclude on the direct select options bar.

19. Hold your shift key down and click on the background paths. Click the combine button.

20. Select your type tool set to Comic sands font, bold, 14 pt, smooth, and choose tracking = 100 from the character palette. Type in the work SOLARIS under the figure but within the inner rounded rectangle. Use the move tool to reposition it if need be.

21. Click Layer=> type=> Create work path.

22. Choose your path select tool from the tool box. Click on the work path on the path palette. Click the menus Edit=> Copy. Click on the Me Shape path and then select Edit=> Paste. Use the direct select tool to select the text, holding shift key down to add each letter by clicking. Set this Type to Exclude on the direct select options bar.  Click combine. Hold your shift key down and click on the orther path and then click combine again to make one big path.

23. Use the path selection tool to click on the My Shape path. Click Edit=> Define Custom Shape. Call the shape Solaris.

You can now draw your shape on any canvas in any size since this is totally vector.:)
